In 1985, TMCJ Founder/President Marie Umidi invited the late Barbara Barclift (then Worship Director at Kempsville Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, VA) to engage the church’s choir, orchestra, and company of volunteer actors to premiere a passion play she had written, featuring music and dancing wrapped around the final week in the life of Christ. Barbara responded, “This is an answer to my prayers.”

The Story was especially written for TMCJ International Productions by renowned playwright, Dr. Gillette Elvgren, TMCJ board member and professor of Drama and the Arts at Regent University. We created this version with three objectives in mind: First, to be used to spread the Gospel both nationally and internationally. Second, to be mobile and travel easily. Third, to be adaptable to any culture or country in which it is performed.
